I just attended the Chuckanut Writer’s Conference in Bellingham, Washington. The conference was put on by Village Books, The Narrative Project, and Sidekick Press.

Village Books is an amazing bookstore in Bellingham, Washington. They help writers determine what is the best option for them when it comes to publishing and they offer many classes for writers.

The Narrative Project is the name of the writing program I am in. Through the Narrative Project I completed my first rough draft manuscript for my memoir. I am now in the second year of the program focusing on revisions.

My website was designed by Lisa Dailey who runs Sidekick Press a small publishing company and Silent Sidekick a small website design company.

I was thrilled to be surrounded by so many amazing writers and creative people. It was so inspiring. The conference was also a great place to meet new writers, editors, and publishers.

Each person leading the conference and seminars seemed genuinely invested in helping writers achieve their goals. I also attended several seminars by Brooke Warner publisher of She Writes Press which is a hybrid publishing company for women authors. If you don’t know who Brooke is or her company go find her. She is amazingly kind, talented, and knowledgeable.

One takeaway from the conference is I joined Substack. You can find me at kellimechelke.substack.com. You can start viewing my posts there, on my website (go to blogs), Facebook, or Instagram.
